Sometimes, you want to just sit back, take a deep breath and think of the olden days. The Golden Classic Car Cruise allows you to do just that. It was recommended to me in 2012 by Fred Gomez, a longtime backbone of concessions at Coors Field. Fred appreciated classic cars, and told me I should take a lawn chair out to Golden and watch it unfold. It took 14 years, but I finally did it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeing these original and modified antiques rolling down S. Golden Road brought back memories from my days living in New Jersey. I brought a new, red Chevy Camaro Berlinetta from Cleveland, and it became known as Christine because it was trying to kill me. I returned the car to Ohio and began the search for another vehicle. I saw an ad for an antique — a 1962 Ford Thunderbird. It was beautiful, and had won some trophies at classic car shows. I would have loved to own it, but it would have been my everyday car. I would have ruined it. The T-bird deserved somebody who could baby it and keep it pristine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, I don’t profess to be a car expert and truthfully, I can name only a fraction of the cars I photographed. But here’s the deal. My dear friends Chris Christensen and Eugene Morreale have restored classic cars, and I recognize the amount of work people invest in antique car restoration. It takes knowledge and vision. Even though it’s not something I do, I admire those who have rolled up their sleeves and gotten greasy up to the elbows. I’m happy to share some of the unedited photographs I took and hope it brings a smile to your, um — grill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
